May 4: Star Wars Day

“May the Fourth be with You!" It’s another year of the fan favorite Star Wars Day and WE Brewery has prepared something special. Kick back, relax with a cold beer and enjoy a Star Wars movie marathon on the big screen at the bar. For those that want to join the dark side, WE's dark beer Piglet’s Kiss is on offer for the very happy hour price of RMB25.

May 5: Cinco de Mayo

WE Brewery keeps the fiesta going through the weekend with their Cinco de Mayo bash featuring Mexican music, a themed costume contest, prizes and – you guessed it – loads of tequila.

May 19: Cheer Chen

Cheer Chen brings her lush guitar tunes to Tianjin for one night only. The Taiwan born singer-songwriter is known for her bare acoustic songs and thoughtful lyrics. Expect an intimate performance.

May 19 & 20: Ultimate Frisbee Tournament 

Forget rugby or lacrosse – Ultimate frisbee is where the real action happens. Check it out for yourself at the Tianjin Ultimate Frisbee Tournament. The mixed team tournament is an all-weekend affair, with a closing party to boot. You’re guaranteed to make new friends (or enemies, depending on how competitive you are) or at least give your bod a good workout.

May 20: 'Trésors d’Ingres à Montauban' Exhibition

Marvel at this beautiful selection of works by neo-classical French artists, including Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres. The retrospective contains 70 of the progressive artist’s paintings, drawings and collectibles. Works by Nicolas Poussin, among others, are also on display. Through

May 25: Maksim & His Band Crossover Piano Concert Tour

Croatian pianist Maksim Mrvica specializes in classical crossover music. Think classic pieces turned hip, thanks to the use of electro-acoustic devices. The artist aims to appeal to a broader range of people by modernizing classical music.

New Beer at WE Brewery

Jing meets Jin with a new beer collab between TIanjin’s WE Brewery and Slow Boat Brewery Beijing. The ‘Tianjin Steamer’ is inspired by the California Common style of beer: in the late 19th century, California brewers used a strain of lager yeast fermented at higher temperatures due to the lack of fridges. The result is an easy-drinking lager with a crisp, clean flavor.

Boston Lobster Dishes

What does spring mean to you? If the answer is ‘lobster’ than you’re in luck because Renaissance Tianjin Lakeview Hotel recently launched a new Boston lobster special. The new menu items include Boston lobster done two ways: steamer lobster with vermicelli and garlic, and grilled lobster with Newburg sauce. The lobster is served at the outdoor BBQ station, just in time for the sunny season. Gobble it up while you can – we’re drooling just typing this out.
